WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Senate Majority PAC is up with a new television ad in Iowa featuring Dr. Kristy Calland of Ames, Iowa, who is calling out Senator Joni Ernst for pushing conspiracy theories about the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sen. Ernst has made headlines for pushing conspiracy theories supported by QAnon followers and debunked by public health experts while blaming Iowa’s health care providers who are risking their lives on the front lines. Sen. Ernst said she was “so skeptical” about the deaths caused by COVID-19, while Iowa had more per capita cases than any other state. When Sen. Ernst wasn’t pushing conspiracy theories, she was busy making sure the special interests were taken care of at the expense of Iowa families during the pandemic by voting for a slush fund for her big donors and voting against paid sick leave not once – but twice.

The television ad is running statewide in Iowa.

“Washington has changed Joni Ernst so much she’s willing to attack Iowa’s frontline workers during a global pandemic,” said Senate Majority PAC spokesperson Matt Corridoni. “Shame on Joni Ernst for peddling such lies while doing the bidding of her special interest donors. Iowa nurses, doctors, and frontline workers who are risking their lives won’t forget that Ernst didn’t have their back during this crisis.”

DR. KRISTY CALLAND: “During the initial surge I started doing some 12-hour shifts at the hospital to help out. Now I see Joni Ernst question the number of Covid fatalities.”

NEWS CLIP: “Senator Joni Ernst is suggesting the government statistics on COVID-19 cases and deaths have been inflated.”

DR. KRISTY CALLAND: “Senator Ernst –these deaths are real. You’re spreading lies that attack frontline health care workers like me. The fact that you believe this shows just how much you’ve changed.”
