SMP Statement on Montana Senate Primary Results

Washington, DC – Tonight, Senate Majority PAC President J.B. Poersch released the following statement on the results of the Montana Senate primary:

“Governor Steve Bullock is a proven consensus-builder who has shown true leadership throughout the COVID-19 crisis and has earned the trust of Montanans. While Gov. Bullock has been leading, Sen. Steve Daines has been lying about his record of voting to make it harder for working families to get ahead. Sen. Daines has made a career out of taking orders from Wall Street, bailing out corporations, and getting tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy. Montanans know that Sen. Daines has never made them a priority, and this November they’re going to replace him with a public servant who has been delivering results at home for the last eight years: Steve Bullock.”

Gov. Bullock’s candidacy has made Montana one of the “most competitive Senate races.” This comes as grassroots energy, record-breaking fundraising, and strong candidates running across the country have Republicans’ Senate majority in very real jeopardy.” While Senator Daines has faced criticism back home, Governor Bullock’s leadership during the pandemic has been praised. Bullock has been called “the face of Montana’s fight to contain the outbreak” while Senator Daines has been called  “dishonest” for taking victory laps over relief he voted against.

Senate Majority PAC has previously been on the air in Montana with a television ad setting the record straight on Daines’ priorities. Additional spending in the state will be announced on a rolling basis.
