SMP Statement on Maine Senate Primary Results

Washington, DC – Today, Senate Majority PAC President J.B. Poersch released the following statement on the results of the Maine Senate primary:

“Congratulations to Maine Speaker Sara Gideon on securing the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. Gideon is building a formidable campaign that puts working families first and her proven track record of getting results will make her an effective voice for the people of Maine.

“This election, Mainers are seeing a different side of Susan Collins, as she sinks to new lows to hide her record in Washington. After vowing to be an ‘independent voice’ for the state, Collins has sided with President Trump, Mitch McConnell, and her donors, and enabled the worst of the GOP agenda that hurts working families.

“After Susan Collins turned her back on Maine women to nominate anti-choice judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, she cashed in among his biggest supporters. And while Susan Collins failed to hold drug companies accountable for their role in the opioid epidemic, she banked donations from the industry’s top distributors.

“It’s no wonder that Susan Collins is losing endorsements and statewide support by the day. She has shown time and again that money changes everything, even Susan Collins and this November, disappointed Mainers will be looking for a change as well.”
