SMP Outraises GOP Counterpart by Double

Washington, D.C. — Today, Senate Majority PAC (SMP), the independent organization dedicated to winning the Democratic majority in the U.S. Senate, announced a record-shattering fundraising haul of $61 million in 2019, raising three times more than its previous off year and boasting an organizational record heading into 2020.

According to Politico, SMP outraised it’s GOP counterpart by double in 2019 and enters the on year with more cash on hand. More than two-thirds of SMP’s massive $61 million fundraising haul was raised in the second half of the year as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell continued to block key legislation and President Trump faced an impeachment investigation for his abuse of power.

SMP heads into 2020 in a strong position with more than $47 million cash on hand, which is $30 million more than 2017.

“Our record-breaking fundraising is another sign that the American people are fed up with Senate Republicans toeing the McConnell line,” said SMP President J.B. Poersch. “We start 2020 with the momentum and resources necessary to compete deep into the Senate map, while Senate Republicans are forced to defend vulnerable incumbents who become more unpopular by the day.”

SMP’s record-breaking fundraising haul matches the strong Democratic fundraising posted across the Senate battlefield this cycle. Cook Political Report recently reported that the Senate majority is in play, stating that “Democrats appear to have expanded the playing field enough to put Republicans’ majority at risk.”
