Senate Majority PAC Raises $35.3M in First Quarter

SMP Outraises GOP Counterpart Again

Washington, D.C. — Today, Senate Majority PAC (SMP), the independent organization dedicated to winning the Democratic majority in the U.S. Senate, announced it raised $35.3M in the first quarter of 2020, outraising its GOP counterpart by nearly $9M for the quarter.

SMP raised $7.4M in March, $15.8M in February and $12.1M in January, building upon its record-shattering fundraising haul of 2019. SMP ends the first quarter in a strong position to take advantage of a favorable Senate map for Democrats, with nearly $57 million cash on hand, which is more than double compared to last cycle.

“Momentum is on the side of Democrats as we continue to expand the map and put more seats in play heading into one of the most important elections of our lifetime,” said SMP President J.B. Poersch. “We have outpaced our Republican counterparts and have more cash on hand, as they are forced to spend everywhere to defend their weak incumbents, including Mitch McConnell.”

SMP’s quarterly fundraising haul matches the strong Democratic fundraising seen across the Senate battlefield this cycle as ten Democratic challengers outraised incumbents this quarter. Cook Political Report recently reported that the Senate majority is in play, stating that “the chances of Democrats taking back the Senate are rising, and is now close to 50-50 odds.”
