Senate Majority PAC Launches Digital Ads Hitting Joni Ernst for Protecting Big Oil Over Iowa’s Farm Economy

New Facebook Ads Target Rural Iowans on Ernst’s Failure to Hold Wheeler & EPA Accountable while taking Campaign Cash

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senate Majority PAC is launching new digital ads highlighting Sen. Joni Ernst’s record of selling out Iowa farmers and the ethanol industry while in Washington. Ernst is facing heat for her vote to confirm a former fossil fuel lobbyist to run the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which has since expanded the number of secret oil and gas giveaways at the expense of Iowa’s farm economy.

While Theresa Greenfield and Iowa leaders have repeatedly called for the EPA administrator’s resignation, Ernst has been dragging her feet and is failing to take a stand as her campaign is boosted by hundreds of thousands of dollars from big oil and companies skirting RFS laws.

SMP’s sizeable five-figure digital buy will run on Facebook and target persuadable Iowa voters across the state, especially those in rural areas.

“Joni Ernst is all talk, no action,” said Rachel Irwin, an SMP spokesperson. “Iowans deserve to know that Ernst is protecting big oil over Iowa farmer’s economy, which is already hard hit by the pandemic and her party’s trail of broken promises. Ernst could demand Wheeler’s resignation today, instead, she is putting party loyalty ahead of her constituents while cashing in.”
