Washington, D.C. — Today, Senate Majority PAC (SMP) is releasing a new TV ad that sets the record straight on Sen. Cory Gardner’s special interest allies’ false attacks and “politically motivated lies” about former Gov. John Hickenlooper.

A new Republican dark money group has hit the airwaves in Colorado to smear Hickenlooper with false accusations of a phony ethics complaint, which the Denver Post editorial board summarized as: “At best it represents lazy reporting or perhaps willful disregard of the truth. At its worst, they were politically motivated lies.”

Their ad also falsely states that Colorado misused a 9/11 recovery fund in response to the complaint against Hickenlooper. The fund in question was paid for by leftover funds appropriated along with the 2003 Bush tax cuts and has been used by every Governor since. According to the Denver Post: “For the past dozen years, the fund has been treated as a highly discretionary tool in the budgetary tool belts of Colorado’s governors, granting them wide flexibility over how its money was spent.”

“It is telling that Sen. Cory Gardner and his special interests allies are so desperate to hide his record in Washington that they’ll exploit 9/11 for political gain,” said Rachel Irwin, a spokesperson for SMP. “Sen. Gardner is counting on his special interest allies to smear his opponent because he knows once voters learn about his record of standing with Trump 100 percent in Washington, they’ll vote him out in November.”

The truth is this has nothing to do with 9/11.

And what’s Cory Gardner been doing in Washington?

President Trump: “You’re gonna help us get Cory Gardner across that line because he’s been with us 100 percent.”
